Tonight the Penguins will be on the other end of a home opener as Montreal opens their home schedule at Centre Bell. The Penguins (2-0-1) are coming off a somewhat subpar performance against the Colorado Avalanche, losing in overtime 4-3. The Canadiens (1-0-1) are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators way back on Saturday.
The Canadiens will be without star goaltender Carey Price thanks to the flu, so look for Al Montoya to be between the pipes tonight. The Penguins will once again be without star Sidney Crosby, winger Bryan Rust, and goaltender Matt Murray. The one good thing about this game for both teams is that the Pittsburgh Penguins will be wearing their sexy new white away jersey for the first time tonight.
These two clubs met three times last year with the Penguins going (1-1-1) against the Habs. Not like last year's results matter at all, but it's literally a toss up over who could win tonight. We here at Pens of Anarchy didn't really hate Montreal that much until this offseason when they traded star player and 'locker room cancer' PK Subban to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber. We're #TeamSubban (except for @Bobbles412) and love what he brings to the sport of hockey, so basically we're looking forward to Saturday more than tonight, when the Penguins play against Subban and the Predators. Either way, let's look at the projected lineup tonight for the Subban-less Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
*Stripes will be updated closer to game time*
First time all year we get to hear the Canadian National Anthem, let's go. We love it.
Last night's game was filled with penalties, so if the Penguins take under seven, they'll already be better than they were last night.
We know Letang is wearing black in our game day photo, it's because we don't have any good pictures of good players wearing the new white jerseys.
You'll deal with it, we did.
Look for Penguins backup Mike Condon to get the start tonight against the Habs.
He played 55 games for them last season, going 21-25-3 when Carey Price was injured.
Note: We never said our lineups are right, this is what we're projecting.
Hot take coming here but Kris Letang usually always elevates his game against the Canadiens, since it's essentially a home game for him.
Same with Marc-Andre Fleury (just incase he plays, remember I said this).
Tom Sestito vs Andrew Shaw could be a thing tonight, so grab some popcorn.
The Penguins have powerplay goals in all three games this season, so that's cool.
It wouldn't be a Penguin game if they weren't killing a 5 on 3 penalty, so look for that at some point too.
The Penguins were 14-14-4 in back-to-back games last year.
WAIT the Canadiens have Bobby Farnham on their team?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!
Defenseman PK Subban will miss tonight's game for Montreal due to being traded to Nashville in the summer (it's a joke, sort of like the Canadiens front office).
Has Alex Radulov left for the KHL yet? Asking for a friend.
I really don't know what else to write. Stay tuned for the stripes update coming later today.
Do it. Go Pens.
