Stop me if you've heard this before: The Pittsburgh Penguins came back to win a game. Well, they did it again last night at PPG Paints Arena, beating the Carolina Hurricanes (15-12-7) by a score of 3-2 to improve to 24-8-5 on the year.
The Penguins were able to do the damn thing thanks to the go-ahead goal by Carl Hagelin with just under five minutes remaining. Despite getting outworked most of the night, and having a defense comprised of mainly AHL players and Derrick Pouliot, because he belongs in the ECHL, or worse yet, EASHL, the Penguins found a way to comeback.
For those sitting at home and pondering life and stats, the Penguins are 6-1-0 in their last seven home games in which they trailed after two periods, per Bob Grove, who is the GOAT. Think about that stat real quick, the Penguins are 6-1-0 in games they've TRAILED, as in they were LOSING the game after two periods. That is legitimately insane. Mike Sullivan's three year contract was well deserved.
The game did have a few storylines, such as Matt Murray leaving after the second period with a 'lower body injury.' He'll be evaluated at some point today. Murray made 25 saves on 27 shots prior to leaving. It's ok though, the Penguins brought in their number one goalie and got the job done.
Also, Sidney Crosby. What a hockey player and what a human. Crosby notched his 26th goal of the season, which is seven higher than the next closest players. Oh yeah, Crosby also missed the first six games with a concussion. It's Sidney Crosby's world and we're living in it.
