The Penguins (28-11-5) came away with a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens (27-13-6) last night at Bell Centre thanks in part to Olli Maatta's first goal in 63 games. Matt Murray had a way better night than he did against the Capitals on Monday. Murray made 19 saves and made them all look rather easy, as opposed to last game where he gave up 600 goals and still managed to get the win.
The Penguins have now beaten Braden Holtby (HOLLLLLLLLLLLTTTTTTBYYYYYYYYYYYY) and Carey Price in back-to-back games, so I guess you can say the Pens are doing okay. Although the stars have been carrying the Penguins much of the season in terms of point production, last night the lesser guys got it done.
For example, Ian Cole (who really has been good all season), Eric Fehr (who's been a healthy scratch in favor of Tom Kuhnhackl), Jake Guentzel (who got recalled once Letang was moved to injured reserve), and Olli Maatta (who I forget exists sometimes until he turns a puck over and has to chase someone down) all scored last night for the Penguins.
1st - 14:52 (EV) - Pittsburgh - Ian Cole (3) assisted by Evgeni Malkin (29) & Patric Hornqvist (15)
2nd - 5:19 (EV) - Pittsburgh - Eric Fehr (6) assisted by Chris Kunitz (14) & Scott Wilson (7)
2nd - 17:38 (EV) - Pittsburgh - Jake Guentzel (4) assisted by Cameron Gaunce (1) and Patric Hornqvist (16)
2nd - 18:11 (EV) - Montreal - Sven Andrighetto (2) assisted by Alexei Emelin (5) and Artturi Lehkonen (5)
3rd - 15:36 (EV) - Pittsburgh - Olli Maatta (1) assisted by Conor Sheary (16)
Olli Maatta scored his first goal in 63 games, so now we'll have to wait another 63 before he does it again.
Hell, even Cameron Gaunce got an assist last night.
Sources say Derrick Pouliot was hitting the booze hardcore after both Ian Cole and Olli Maatta scored.
Evgeni Malkin extended his point streak to five straight games, after tallying an assist on Ian Cole's goal.
The Penguins snapped their three game road losing streak thanks to the victory in Montreal last night.
Harambe's grandmother, Josephine, died last night. I'm still emotionally distraught about that.
Per Dennis Bernstein, a guy who writes for a few credible hockey sites, the Penguins had scouts looking at the Anaheim Ducks blueline last night. Something 'might be brewing' but in reality it's probably just #ScoutsDoingTheirJobWatch.
Give big ups to our own @BPhilly26, he ran our Twitter last night and only lost us two followers!
By the way, if you're not following us on Twitter, you should do so, @PensOfAnarchy.
