Tonight the Penguins (30-11-5) will go for their fifth victory in a row while the Blues (23-19-5) are looking to snap a three game losing streak. The Penguins will do so with backup goaltender Matt Murray once again between the pipes. Since giving up a touchdown versus Washington, Murray has allowed just three goals in nine periods of hockey.
The Penguins will also get defenseman Brian Dumoulin back tonight. Dumoulin has missed the last ten games after breaking his jaw against the New Jersey Devils. Kris Letang remains out, and with the All-Star break coming, I could careless if he plays tonight. Apparently he told 93.7 (joke radio station) that he is "fine."
Conor Sheary was named the NHL's First Star of the Week, partly because he has scored two goals in each of the last two games, and also because he has three two goal games in the past week alone. Sheary is sitting pretty with 17 goals and 17 assists so far on the season, but then again when you play with the best player in the league on your line, you'd have those sorta point totals as well.
In fairness to the Penguins, the Blues also gave up a touchdown to Washington last week. The only difference is that the Blues lost the game 7-3. Although the Blues have been trash over the last week, their top line of Schwartz, Stastny, and Steen has been clicking on all cylinders. Over their last two games, that line has combined 12 points and a +10 rating (not like plus / minus is a relevant stat but...). Either way, apparently Blue's Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said he'd probably split up that line in order to help the rest of the team.
Since December 17th when Crosby, Rust, and Sheary became a line, they've tallied 48 points (20 goals, 28 assists). (Per Penguins website)
That's very good incase you're new to hockey.
It's a battle of the backups tonight, Hutton versus Murray.
The Blues will get defenseman Jay Bouwmeester back tonight, he missed Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury.
At least we won't have to hear about Robert Bortuzzo and Beau Bennett's bromance anymore (knocks on wood repetitively).
Forgot Nail Yakupov was on the Blues to be honest with you.
Penguins have two more games before the All-Star break, they'll be at Boston Thursday night.
Look for David Perron to be invisible for the Blues tonight because that seemed to be a common theme when he was a Penguin.
The Penguins are 2-0 since Donald Trump took office. Don't look now but I have no complaints.
Look for Ryan Reeves to do something very stupid and make us very mad tonight.
Really don't know what else to write, I still don't care too much about this season.
