The Penguins (30-12-5) will play their final game before heading into the All-Star break tonight against the Boston Bruins (23-21-6) at TD Garden.
The Penguins are coming off a 3-0 loss to the St.Louis Blues in what may have been the most boring hockey game of the season. Evgeni Malkin also suffered a 'lower body injury' and he will miss tonight's game and the All-Star game / festivities this upcoming weekend. While I'm all for players sitting and resting during the All-Star game and love hearing their excuses or 'injuries' prior to bailing on the game, I do believe Malkin was actually hurt. Either way, no Malkin tonight and forward Patric Hornqvist is a game-time decision. Not really sure what happened to Hornqvist, but I do know that he was in Blue's goaltender Carter Hutton's mouth all night last game.
The Bruins are coming off of a 4-3 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. In their last ten games, the Bruins are 4-4-2, and have lost five of their last seven games. One of those losses being a 5-1 loss to the Penguins on Sunday night. In their two meetings so far this year, the Penguins have outscored the Bruins by a combined score of 9-4. Goaltender Tuukka Rask will make his ninth straight start, while Matt Murray will get his sixth straight start for the Penguins.
Bruin scumbag Brad Marchand was fined $10,000 (the max fine allowed under the current CBA) by the Department of Player Safety for his slew-foot on Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall.
The Bruins currently are on the outside of the playoff picture, trailing the Philadelphia Flyers by just one point for the second wildcard spot. That's hilarious considering the Flyers are absolute trash.
Speaking of the Flyers, we're under a month until the Stadium Series game, if you want the chance to tailgate with us, we need your name, address, and social security number.
Per NHL.com. the Penguins rank first in the goals for category, averaging 3.55 goals per game.
The Penguins recalled forward Carter Rowney from Wilkes-Barre today.
If Hornqvist is unable to go, look for the 27 year old Rowney to make his NHL debut.
We spoke to our own Pens of Anarchy minor league scout Matt Brower (@Browthekid) and this is what he had to say:
"Rowney is 6'2 200lbs and can play wing as well as center. He is a decent skater with a right hand shot, plays 200 ft hockey, can grind if need be, and most importantly he finishes his checks."
Matt Brower's source includes playing endless seasons of GM Mode on NHL 17, needless to say we really do trust his analysis.
If the Penguins win tonight, it will be the first time since 2012-2013 where they would have swept the Bruins in the regular season.
Also if the Penguins win tonight, it will be their highest road winning streak of the season (3 games).
