Tonight the Penguins (33-13-5) will look to stay undefeated after the All-Star break, while their opponent, the Calgary Flames (27-25-3) look to begin a new winning streak after losing to the Rangers on Sunday night. Tonight is also 'You Can Play' Night, which supports the LGBT community and promotes the game of hockey.
Speaking of the game of hockey, Sidney Crosby is just three points off of 1,000 for his NHL career. Crosby will join 85 other NHL players in the elite 1,000 point club. It's just a matter of when. Realistically with the way Sid has been playing lately and how average Calgary has been this year, tonight could be that night. If Crosby doesn't reach 1,000 points tonight, the Penguins upcoming opponents are: Colorado, Arizona, Vancouver, and Winnipeg. So technically, Crosby could be sitting at 2,000 points for his career once the Penguins face the Blue Jackets a week from Friday.
Speaking of the Penguins, they will be still without forward Evgeni Malkin, winger Conor Sheary, and now winger Carl Hagelin, who was hit by Blue's forward Alexander Steen during Saturday night's game. Hagelin suffered a concussion and is currently going through the league mandated concussion protocol. Speaking of protocol, as per usual Matt Murray was named the starting goalie for tonight's game and most of you are mad about it. Don't believe me, go to the Penguin's Twitter page and look, it's a magical place.
The Flames as mentioned above are coming off a loss to the Rangers on Sunday night. Prior to the loss, the Flames were riding a three game winning streak. Calgary is led by forward Sean Monahan, who has 9 goals in his last 11 games. Chad Ochocinco is expected to be in net tonight because Brian Elliott has started the previous four contests.
*Apparently the Flames don't have a fourth line right winger tonight, thanks Daily FaceOff*
'You Can Play' Night tonight. Good for the Penguins and the NHL.
Chris Kunitz is the Penguins ambassador for 'You Can Play.'
Crosby currently sits at 997 points.
No Malkin tonight.
Mikael Backlund leads the Flames in points with 37.
Sean Monahan leads the Flames with 19 goals and is 1 goal shy of 100 for his career.
Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton will be a Penguin one day, hopefully.
Speaking of hopefully being a Penguin, #JagrWatch is in full swing. With both Sheary AND Hagelin out, it's time to bring him home.
Today the Bruins fired Head Coach Claude Julian.
They did so because it was the same day as the Patriots Super Bowl parade so a lot of the attention was off of them.
What a smart move by the PR Department, as well as a coward move by the PR Department.
Boston sucks, whatever.
Matt Murray is in net tonight and you're upset, aren't you?
Former Penguin Deryk Engelland, who plays for the Flames incase you live under a rock, once wore an 'A' on his jersey this year.
Think about that.
Bring Jagr home.
