As Sidney Crosby continued his chase for 1000 points, the Penguins did their part in beating the worst team in hockey last night. Sure the Pens looked bad in the first, but they still came away with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Phil Kessel off a 2 on 1 with Matt Cullen.
While the Avs had their chances in the second, it wouldn't matter as the period belong to Patric Hornqvist. Hornqvist collected two goals in the period, which gave the Pens a 3-0 lead after two.
In the final frame, the Avs did score off Matt Murrays pads late, which caused Bob Errey to get over excited as he was able to talk about the new goalie pants. Hey! Did you know that as of February 4th all goalies have to wear new pants? Did you know that? I'm just making sure!! The Pens topped off the game by scoring an empty goal to make it a 4-1 victory.
Now before I get to scoring, lets go back to the empty netter. Sure Chris Kunitz scored it, but do you remember what happened the last time Kunitz had an open net?
Kunitz decided to make boneheaded pass instead of shooting to Evgeni Malkin during Game Six of the Stanley Cup Final. Now fast forward to last night.
While the fire breathing turtle returned, Kunitz decided to shoot and score this time. Still a surprise IMO.
