This afternoon the Penguins (36-13-8) will square off against the Detroit Red Wings (23-25-10) at 3:00PM at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Brandon Dubinsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night, while the Red Wings are looking to make it two straight wins after taking down the Capitals last night in a shootout by a score of 3-2.
The Penguins will most likely be without Justin Schultz again, after Dustin Byfuglien punted him into the boards during Thursday's game against the Winnipeg Jets. Conor Sheary is getting closer to returning to the lineup, though I doubt he plays this afternoon. It was refreshing to see Carl Hagelin return Friday night against CBJ, so now the Penguins are only missing Rust, Maatta, Sheary, and Schultz. The Penguins are also missing Jaromir Jagr, Matt Duchene, and Kevin Shattenkirk. Hopefully those guys get here soon, especially Jagr.
Speaking of missing players, the Red Wings will be without forward Gustav Nyquist, who decided it was ok to destroy Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon's face with a stick. Yeah, that wasn't a good idea and with 7 goals and 22 assists this year on a crap Red Wings team, his absence will not doubt suck for the them.
I mean, I thought this was totally clean, if not embellishment on Spurgeon but the NHL felt differently and suspended Nyquist for six games.
Apparently Steve Ott still plays in the NHL, that's cool. I didn't know that. Daily Faceoff lists him as the 4th line right winger for the Wings.
The Penguins are currently riding a nine game point streak (6-0-3) and sit at second in the Metrosexual Division, five points behind the Washington Capitals.
Man, I miss Justin Schultz.
Ruhwedel is a beast though.
Mike Green is questionable today for the Red Wings due to illness, he didn't play last night against the Capitals.
The Red Wings are trash this year, currently tied for last in the Eastern Conference with just 56 points.
The Penguins have 80 points, so you can #compare those numbers.
We're six days away from the Stadium Series, so yeah this game means nothing to us at all.
