After Nick Bonino reminded the Capitals that he was indeed their daddy on Thursday night, the Penguins will look to go up 2-0 on 2017 Trade Deadline Champion Washington Capitals. Although the Penguins won the game, the Caps dominated it. The Caps attempted something like 83 shots on net and Ian Cole blocked over half of them. Just kidding, but really without Fleury and Guentzel the Capitals might have won Game One by a score of 69-3.
The Penguins could get speedy winger Carl Hagelin back tonight, he did go full in practice yesterday and Mike Sullivan confirmed that he is indeed a 'game time decision.' The Capitals will probably still be without defenseman Karl Alzner, which definitely helps the Penguins, considering that other than Alzner, Kevin Shattenkirk is their only other good defenseman (P.S. yes I know that Kris Letang would be a third pair defenseman on the Capitals, Ed Frankovic told me so).
Hot take here, but it would be in the Penguins best interest to score first tonight. Per the Capitals website, the Capitals are 23-6 (dating back to the 2009-2010 playoffs) when scoring first. The Caps will always Cap, but that's a pretty solid record. Also, Braden Holtby has recorded two shutouts and has a goals against average of 1.92 with a .933 save percentage in his playoff career following a loss.
However, Sidney Crosby isn't human, we already knew this but I thought I'd share. Crosby recorded two goals on Thursday night, tying him with Mario Lemieux for 1st all-time in franchise history in multipoint playoff games with 51. The first line of Guentzel, Crosby, and Hornqvist was an absolute force out there Thursday night. Speaking of lines, here ya go.
(If any of these lines are wrong, direct your anger and hate towards @kingling43 and tell him he sucks)
I'm also mad.
The Penguins had an optional skate today, but I fully expect Hagelin to play tonight.
If Hagelin does play, Conor Sheary could potentially be one of the guys that sits, considering he's been hot garbage lately.
Mia Khalifa is garbage.
The Caps can't afford to go down 2-0 going to Pittsburgh, this is pretty much the cliche 'must win.'
Speaking of 'going down', I'm sure Mia Khalifa is doing that right now.
Do you know where Tom Wilson was on September 11th? It really makes you think...
Watch for Nick Bonino again tonight because it's #BoninoSeason
Remember on Thursday when the Capitals had seven players on the ice and didn't get called? Good times.
