The Penguins will play their first preseason game tonight in the House that Joe Knew, Pegula Ice Arena in Happy Valley, PA. The Sabres are already familiar with the arena, having hosted the Minnesota Wild here for a preseason game last season.
The Sabres are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last night. In case you didn't know, Dan Bylsma does not coach the Sabres anymore. He was fired and replaced by Phil Housley. Honestly, the Sabres will still be bad, they'll just probably be a little less bad.
The Penguins, if you didn't know, are back-to-back Stanley Cup champions and are looking to become the first team to three-peat since the Islanders won four straight between 1980 and 1983. The Penguins also look a little different behind the bench since Assistant Coach Rick Tocchet departed to take the Arizona Coyotes Head Coaching job back in July. Mark Recchi replaces him behind the bench.
The Sabres have yet to announce a lineup for tonight but here's who the Penguins are going with:
-Derrick Pouliot already turned the puck over several times. He sucks.
-Anytime Aston-Reese and Daniel Sprong are in the lineup, it's a good day.
-Jay McClement is here on a PTO vying for a roster spot. His career faceoff percentage is over 52% so that's good, I guess.
-Antti Niemi will see some action in net tonight. Can't wait to want him gone after he gives up a SAWFT goal.
-Apparently this Jordy Bellerive kid is pretty good, so watch out for that.
-Jagr STILL has yet to sign a contract yet so...
There's really not much more to write considering it's a preseason game and it's not even televised. Hell, the Sabres don't even know who they're using in the game tonight. This was just an excuse to write something. Nonetheless, hockey is back though.
