You'll never guess what the Penguins (9-6-2) are doing this weekend? If you said playing back-to-back road games again because the NHL hates them, you'd be correct. Tonight the Penguins will faceoff against the Washington Capitals (8-7-1) at Capital One Arena with puck drop set for just after 7:08PM.
The Penguins have already won in Washington, D.C. this season, pulling out a 3-2 victory over the Capitals back on October 11th. Tonight should be a crapshoot considering the Penguins have yet to find their game this season and well, let's just say Washington has been searching for that game and some depth all season. Wait until you see the Capitals projected lines for this evening, my guess is that you might know two players...if you're lucky.
The Capitals much like the Penguins do every damn season are dealing with a bad case of the injury bug. Currently Washington is without defenseman / murderer Matt Niskanen (broken hand), forward Andre Burakovsky (broken thumb), and forward Brett Connelly (concussion). All aren't expected to play tonight. Penguins defenseman Matt Hunwick could return tonight but who knows.
The Penguins are coming off a 3-1 victory against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night. Even though the score said 3-1, it could have easily been 9-1 considering the Penguins dominated most of the game. The Penguins played much better against the Coyotes on Tuesday, probably considering they didn't have to worry about Shane Doan running around trying to kill people. Just my thought though. Sidney Crosby hasn't tallied a goal in nine games and I was briefly concerned. I then thought to myself, Crosby is the best player in the world and it's the regular season. I then was no longer concerned. If you're concerned, just remember the Penguins are back-to-back Stanley Cup champions and when they feel like trying again, they will.
Speaking of trying this season, the Capitals have been far from stellar so far this season, putting up another 'L' Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres, losing 3-1. Washington did play 10 of their first 16 games on the road and now have 11 of it's next 14 games at home, so that may help, especially considering it's the regular season and that's peak Capitals season.
Expect Holtby vs Murray tonight.
*You'll never guess, Scouting the Refs doesn't have the refs yet. Stay tuned, maybe we'll update them.*
Following Tuesday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres, Capitals backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer said, "I'm sick of $%^#$!@ losing", and it made me so happy.
Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom hasn't recorded a point in seven games so look for him to score eight goals tonight.
Barry Trotz hates the Penguins and it's such a beautiful sight to see.
Tom Wilson vs Ryan Reaves tonight? Pls God let his happen.
Justin Schultz is the best hockey player to ever play the game.
As mentioned above, Sidney Crosby doesn't have a goal in last nine games. I wish I cared but it's November.
I really don't know 69% of this Capitals lineup. I bet by 7:09PM tonight I hate every one of them.
Conor Sheary (Sharrrrrry) hasn't scored a goal since #PronunciationGate. Good.
We're buying tickets to go see the Penguins in Buffalo December 1st probably some time this weekend. Buckle up for an unreal road trip with your least favorite blog.
