Tonight the Penguins (18-15-3) look to make it two in a row against Andrew Cogliano and the Anaheim Ducks (15-13-8) with face-off set for just after 7:00PM from PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins are still bad, don't get me wrong, but they found away to get it done against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night, winning 3-2 in a shootout thanks to Kris Letang.
Despite the Penguins struggles, pretty much all season, they found a way to win Thursday night against a familiar foe, the Columbus Blue Jackets. In that game, the Penguins showed a lot of grit. Crosby fought. Malkin fought. Letang 'fought.' Oleksiak looked like a Norris Trophy candidate in his debut. Ryan Reaves actually was noticeable out there. Nonetheless what I'm trying to say is that the Penguins played inspired hockey for the first time in a long time. For once they looked like they actually wanted to play and that facing a rival actually meant something. Could it be a fluke? Maybe. But the Penguins could also build off their win against the Blue Jackets and hopefully string a few more together.
Speaking of underperforming, the Anaheim Ducks were listed by many as a potential Stanley Cup favorite. They're currently on the outside looking in, in terms of the playoff picture, and playing very inconsistent hockey as of late. In their last ten, the Ducks are 4-2-4 and are coming off a 5-4 overtime win against the New York Islanders on Thursday thanks to defenseman Hampus Lindholm. The Ducks have suffered some significant injuries this season, losing Ryan Getzlaf for 18 games due to a broken bone in his face. On the night he returned, forward Corey Perry went down with a knee injury and is listed as week-to-week. Yikes.
LOL if you thought Scouting the Refs was going to update tonight's officials.
Corey Perry is week-to-week after suffering a knee injury against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Jamie Oleksiak looked very good in his debut. His shot could legitimately kill someone, if it was ever on target.
Boone Jenner is a bitch. I'm so glad he got tossed last game.
Sidney Crosby wasn't human for 22 seconds in overtime vs Columbus. If you haven't seen it, watch it.
I don't hate the Ducks as much now that Ryan Kesler is wasting away in Vancouver.
John Gibson is from Baldwin, Whitehall. I'm sure you'll hear this 1,000 times during the game. If you play a drinking game relating to Gibson's name being called, make sure you have the morgue on speed dial.
Ryan Miller still plays in the NHL hahahaha.
Ryan Reaves >>> Ryan Fitzpatrick >> Saving Private Ryan >>> Ryan Gosling >>> Ryan Miller >>> Ryan Seacrest.
One game left until Christmas, who cares?
