After an embarrassing 4-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night, Mike Sullivan told his team to use the next few days to do some 'soul searching.' Tonight, we'll see if their souls searched and found anything when the Penguins (18-16-3) return home to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets (22-13-2), with faceoff set for just after 7:00PM at PPG Paints Arena.
Yes, if playing the Blue Jackets again at home sounds familiar to you, that's because it should be. This will be the second meeting between these two teams in less than a week. If you can remember, the Penguins beat the Blue Jackets in a shootout, winning 3-2 thanks to Kris Letang on Thursday. Not much usually changes in a week, but the Blue Jackets lost two significant pieces and now are missing a good chunk of their roster.
Blue Jackets forwards Cam Atkinson and Alex Wennberg are expected to miss between four and six weeks after suffering injuries in back-to-back games. It's believed Atkinson fractured his foot and Wennberg sustained a back injury. No idea what actually happened, but the Jackets are beat up. They were already without degenerate / forward Brandon Dubinsky, defenseman Zach Werenski, who is day-to-day and has missed their last three games, and defenseman Ryan Murray. With the Blue Jackets roster so depleted, expect them to beat the Penguins by seven or eight goals tonight, because that's life. It's a shame that Boone Jenner isn't on that list as well, but I guess we'll deal with it.
If the Penguins do somehow manage to lose this game, and let's be real it'll likely happen because that's the way this season has gone, the roster might look somewhat different Friday when the Penguins make the trip to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes. I look forward to reading all of your burning hot takes.
Of course, the referees haven't been updated since December 23rd. Good Job.
No Letang at the morning skate. Can't wait until they blame his poor play on another injury.
We could also be on #MaintenanceDayWatch.
Matt Murray was the first goalie off, expect him vs Bobrovsky tonight.
At least the Penguins haven't lost yet today, right?
Look for Artemi Panarin to score like seven goals tonight. He's good and owns the Penguins.
I wonder if someone bought Jack Johnson a new cardboard box for Christmas?
Ryan Reaves might light that Hanukkah guy up again tonight and then beat the living hell out of Sedlak. That was fun. Please do it again.
Someone on twitter wanted the Penguins to trade Letang for Fleury, so that was a real opinion from an actual person.
Nothing else to write. Trade everybody. Fire everyone.
I forgot Jack Johnson made a guest appearance in The Office.
Do it. Go Pens.
