On December 25th we celebrated the birth of a savior. On December 30th we're celebrating the call up of a potential savior of the Penguins (19-17-3) season, Daniel Sprong. Sprong was recalled yesterday and will make his season debut tonight when a struggling Penguins team faces off against a very bad Detroit Red Wings (14-16-7) team just with puck drop set for just after 7:00PM at the Red Wing's new home, Little Caesars Arena.
Following an absolutely embarrassing performance by the Penguins on Friday night with their lone goal coming from defenseman Brian Dumoulin in a 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, Jim Rutherford decided to make a change to the Penguins roster by promoting scoring AHL winger Daniel Sprong. It was no coincidence that a night where the Penguins offense fell flat, Daniel Sprong was busy recording his second hat trick of the season, tallying three goals and an assist to help lead the Baby Pens to a 5-1 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Daniel Sprong is tearing up the AHL right now. Sprong had 18 goals and 28 points in 29 games before his recall yesterday. Sprong hasn't seen NHL action since former Head Coach Mike Johnston stuck him on the 4th line and played him six minutes a night way back in 2015, when he played 18 games for the Penguins and burned a year of his entry-level contract. Yikes.
**Checking Scouting the Refs for tonight's officials like...**
Dominik Simon was sent back down to WBS for Daniel Sprong, so expect Sprong to skate on the third line with Sheahan and Sheary. Yikes.
Head Coach Mike Sullivan said goaltender Matt Murray would be available in some capacity tonight, whether he backs up or starts remains to be seen.
It's New Years Eve which means alcohol will be consumed and we'll probably ring in 2018 with a Penguins loss.
I mean, they lost 2-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night, yikes.
Justin Schultz continues to skate. Yesterday in practice he skated with the Defensive Datsyuk, Andrey Pedan.
If Daniel Sprong takes a shift with Ryan Reaves, his recall from Wilkes-Barre wouldn't be worth it. Give him a shift with Crosby or Malkin.
Malkin did miss practice yesterday, but I fully expect him to play tonight.
The Penguins will probably lose tonight, but at least they'll lose with Daniel Sprong on their roster and that's something I can accept.
Apparently the Red Wings first round pick in 2017, Michael Rasmussen is out 4-8 weeks after undergoing wrist surgery.
The Wings are coming off 3-2 shootout win over the New York Rangers on Friday night.
In their last ten games, the Red Wings are 4-4-2.
David Booth still plays in the NHL? LMAO.
I haven't heard about David Booth since Mike Richards sent him into orbit a few years ago.
Daniel Sprong might score nine goals tonight.
If he doesn't, I'm fully prepared to complain on Twitter.com.
