After blowing out the Islanders in Brooklyn by a score of 4-0, thanks to two goals from Daniel Sprong and a four point night from Sidney Crosby, the Penguins (21-19-3) will try to win back-to-back games for the first time since the beginning of December when they face-off against the red hot Boston Bruins (23-10-6) tonight from PPG Paints Arena with puck drop set for just after 7:30PM.
The Penguins absolutely dominated the Islanders Friday night. They did so largely because newly recalled winger Daniel Sprong played on a line with Sidney Crosby the entire night. Sprong looked sharp too, scoring two goals and showed that he can indeed hang with Crosby. The Penguins also got a stellar performance out of goaltender Tristan Jarry, who will start tonight as well after stopping all 31 Islanders shots on Friday night for his second career shutout.
Relief is in sight for the Penguins. Following tonight's game, the Penguins will have five days off for their league mandated 'bye week.' If the Penguins can win tonight, as mentioned above, it will be their first back-to-back wins since way back on December 1st / 2nd where they beat the lowly Buffalo Sabres twice. It also appears that the Penguins could get injured defensemen Brian Dumoulin and Chad Ruhwedel back tonight. Both skated in normal jerseys and Dumoulin was paired with Kris Letang during the morning skate. Stay tuned.
The Bruins are good, folks. The Bruins played last night and beat the living piss out of the Carolina Hurricanes, winning by a score of 7-1. Center Patrice Bergeron tallied four goals and an assist in the win. Let's not forget those same Hurricanes beat the Penguins by a score of 4-0 at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday night. Woof. Over their last 22 games, the Bruins are 17-3-2. I'm not an expert but that's pretty good. The Bruins are currently third in the conference, trailing only the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Washington Capitals in the standings. Tonight will be interesting, so buckle up.
**Scouting the Refs sucks, who cares.**
Tuukka Rask vs Tristan Jarry in net tonight.
Jarry is 7-3-2 on the season with a 2.17 Goals Against Average and a .928 save percentage.
Dominik Simon has been quietly good as well, notching a pair of assists against the Islanders Friday night.
In Daniel Sprong's first four games up here this year, he has 17 shots on net.
Over Sidney Crosby's last ten games, he's failed to put a shot on net four of those games.
Boston is a trash. The Patriots are falling apart. I'm a fan.
Speaking of which, there's playoff football on today. Buffalo vs Jacksonville and Carolina vs New Orleans.
The Kansas City Chiefs are garbage. Watching that team play football truly makes you feel better about how the Penguins season has gone this year.
Maybe Jim Rutherford will make a move during the five day break?
Look for an explosive game out of these two teams.
Never forget when Bruins announcer Jack Edwards compared Matt Cooke to Sirhan Sirhan.
I miss Matt Cooke.
Nothing else to write.
