Following a dominating performance over the Detroit Red Wings yesterday, a game in which the Penguins (23-19-3) won 4-1, they'll play the second of a back-to-back when the New York Rangers (22-16-5) come to town with puck drop set for just after 7:30PM.
It's probably too early to say this, but the Penguins of old could be back. Yesterday it looked as if the Penguins have not missed a beat, despite coming off a five day break. For probably the first time since winning the Stanley Cup, the Penguins looked like they were having fun yesterday. More importantly, it was fun watching them. Evgeni Malkin is on a tear right now. Malkin has scored in three straight games and has 14 points in his last eight games and 12 goals in his last 19 games. That's pretty good. Better yet, Crosby, Kessel, and Malkin have combined for 23 points over their last three games. That's really really good.
The Penguins have won three straight games and four of their last five. Important games aren't really a thing in January, trust us, we're the ones on Twitter who tell you to calm down, but being that the Penguins are starting to find their rhythm and that both of these teams are tied in the standings with 49 points a piece, this would be a good game to win.
Speaking of winning, the Rangers did not do that yesterday. They're coming off an ass beating by the New York Islanders, losing 7-2 on home ice. Yikes. The Rangers have now lost two straight and I hope to God it will be three straight after tonight.
While this game may be important, it's definitely on the back-burner today. Today at 1:05PM the Steelers and Jaguars kickoff their playoff game with the winner getting to play the Patriots / cheaters in the AFC Championship next Sunday at 3:00PM. So yeah, a Penguin win would be cool, but the Steelers are definitely more important today. Blake Bortles sucks.
**No idea who the officials are for the hockey game tonight, but who the hell cares**
Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is listed as questionable but IS expected to play today. Buckle up.
The Pirates traded their ace pitcher Gerrit Cole to the Houston Astros for four scrub players. The Pirates suck and if you like them, so do you.
I'd say expect Tristan Jarry to start again tonight but who knows.
Look piss-baby Henrik Lundqvist to start for the Rangers tonight, he allowed 2 goals on 18 shots last night in relief.
Actually Lundqvist is such a baby he might not start.
Rangers forward Chris Kreider is still out due to blood clots.
The Penguins power play has 4 goals over their last 2 games and 12 goals over their last 10.
The Penguins have killed 22/23 penalties. That's very good.
I've listened to Renegade four times already this morning.
If the Penguins win tonight, it'll be four in a row. That's good.
Don't forget, game is nationally televised tonight. NBCSN.
