Tonight the Carolina Hurricanes travel north to visit the Penguins of Pittsburgh in a battle of playoff hopefuls. Carolina (21-18-8, 50 pts) currently sits 11th in the Eastern Conference, 2 spots behind the Penguins (25-21-3, 53 pts) who are in 8th.
These two teams are in completely different spots, as the Pens were expected to be a playoff team and the Hurricanes were expected to still rebuild and potentially complete. Well the Canes have done that and the Pens, well they are another story.
Some good news for the Penguins, starting goalie Matt Murray is back with the team and is should be back between the pipes in the coming days.
ProHockeyRumors.com ran a story the other day about potential trade deadline upgrades and how Pittsburgh is one of if no the most viable trade partner because of their needs. Bottom 6 depth, 3rd line center, the Penguins have enough needs that can make them attractive to rebuilding teams.
The Penguins will allow Casey DeSmith to make his third straight start.
Matt Murray is back with the team but will not play tonight.
The Hurricanes were recently sold, but won't be moving. I was hoping to see them in Quebec.
These two teams each have former employees of the other, most notably GMJR and Mark Recchi for the Pens and Ron Francis and Jordan Staal for the Canes.
Drinking game - drink every time former Penguin Jordan Staal is mentioned as being a former Penguin. RIP.
Fun Fact: Staal and Recchi were once teammates, as was Francis and Recchi.
Does anybody else hate the NBA and Lebron James as much as I do?
Lets go Pens.
