Dad returns to Pittsburgh. Matt Cullen and the Minnesota Wild (26-17-5, 57 PTS) make the trip Southeast to the Steel City to take on our Penguins (26-21-3, 55 PTS).
The Penguins are coming off a victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in which the score was 3-1. The Hurricanes struck first, but the Pens scored the next 3 goals to tie, take the lead and add an insurance goal. Dominik Simon netted his 2nd goal of the season, then Jean-Sebastien Dea scored his first NHL goal to give the Penguins a 2 -1 lead. All of these goals came in the second period. In the third Jake Guentzel grabbed his 15th goal of the season to make it 3-1 and that would be the final. Rookie Casey DeSmith secured the win with 34 saves on 35 shots.
Minnesota meanwhile is also coming off a 3-1 victory, theirs being over Ottawa.
DAD is back. Well he's back on the ice in Pittsburgh but his numbers have taken a nose dive this season. in 47 games he has 11 points (4-7) and is a -9. While Cullen was never going to be a 60 point person, he wasn't with the Penguins, but he is definitely not putting up the numbers he did here and isn't where the Wild would like him to be.
IDK why we even keep this section as the refs are never updated till closer to game time after we have published.
Matt Cullen returns tonight.
Look for an unreal tribute video.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry was reassigned to Wilkes-Barre yesterday, meaning Casey DeSmith will likely back up Matt Murray for the foreseeable future.
DeSmith will start his 4th straight game. At this time Sullivan hasn't made it clear when Murray will return to start.
Remember when the Pens almost signed Suter and Parise? Yeah I do. They come into town tonight and Pittsburgh has to be glad they never signed them.
Former Penguin trade rental Daniel Winnik also returns.
Bowling Ball Bruce Boudreau (4 B's lol) is still somehow coaching in the NHL. He can always win in the regular season, but is the Marvin Lewis of the NHL, never being able to win in the postseason.
Lets go Pens.
