The red hot Penguins (34-22-4) will look for their fifth straight win tonight when they travel to Columbus to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets (29-25-4) tonight with puck drop set for just after 6PM from Nationwide Arena.
What a difference a month makes. The Penguins are just one point back (granted they have two games in hand) of the first place Washington Capitals in the Metrosexual Division. They have won ten games in a row at home and are 8-1-1 over their last ten games. The Penguins have three guys that are top ten in the league in scoring. Led by Evgeni Malkin with 33 goals and 36 assists, you do the math, it makes 69. Nice. Nonetheless, the Penguins are clicking on all cylinders.
Last night the Penguins snapped the Maple Leafs five game winning streak, winning 5-3. Evgeni Malkin tallied a goal and two assists, recording his 900th career point, joining only Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, and Jaromir Jagr as the only Penguins players to do so. That's elite. Rookie Zach Aston-Reese recorded his third goal of the season while Bryan Rust now has 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists) in his last 12 games. Life is good.
The Blue Jackets are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at home against Philly on Friday night. Brandon Dubinsky is apparently still alive, which is somewhat disappointing considering there was a report out that Dubinsky's career was in jeopardy for personal reasons. I wish I felt bad, but I don't. Speaking of not feeling bad, Jack Johnson is still poor because his parents took all of his money. Oops. The only player on the Blue Jackets I actually like is good at hockey. His name is Artemi Panarin and he currently leads the Jackets in points with 46 (15 goals, 31 assists).
Malkin currently has 69 points. Nice.
Jack Johnson is poor.
Expect Sergei Bobrovsky vs Tristan Jarry in net tonight.
The Penguins are now 9-1-1 over their last 11 games. Bush did it.
Ryan Murray is expected to play for CBJ. He's missed the last 34 games with an upper-body injury.
The Penguins are 2-0 against the Jackets so far this season. Winning both games at PPG Paints Arena.
Matt Murray is 8-0-1 over his last nine games. That's good.
Henrik Lundqvist was pulled last night in a loss to the Senators. Life is good.
Justin Schultz was scratched last night, no idea why. I hope Matt Hunwick doesn't have to play again.
Speaking of which, Darren Dreger of TSN said that Hunwick may be on the trade block, please God.
Phil Kessel and Sidney Crosby still have 66 points. #Illuminati.
Kris Letang has looked better lately, baby steps, right?
SportsNet analyst Nick Kypreos said don't be surprised if the Senators trade Erik Karlsson at the deadline, but for what it's worth Kypreos never gets anything right and is probably suffering from CTE from getting laid out so many times. Don't believe him.
