Hellllloooooooooo everyboddddyyyyyy, how are yaaaaa? Tonight the Penguins (35-22-9) begin, to say the very least, a pivotal home-and-home series against notorious scumbag Brandon Dubinsky and the "all in" Columbus Blue Jackets (37-29-3).
The time has come, folks. This portion of the Penguins schedule is critical and with CBJ sitting just two points behind the Penguins and out of the playoff race, needless to say every game matters. Entering tonight, the Penguins hold the first wild card with 79 points. The Blue Jackets are just two points out of the race with 77 and both clubs have played 66 games thus far. Over the next week, the Penguins will face Columbus twice, Boston, Washington and Buffalo. Needless to say that's not an easy stretch but if the Penguins can come out with a winning record or even breaking even, the playoffs look good.
Pittsburgh enters tonight coming off a 4-3 overtime win against the Florida Panthers courtesy of Jake Guentzel. The Penguins have played well as of late, going 6-2-2 over their last ten games. Sidney Crosby has activated beast mode and is carrying the Penguins on his back. Sid enters tonight on a five game point streak with 24 points (7G, 17A) over in their last 11 outings, which yes, is very good.
Tonight, the 'all-in' Blue Jackets begin a stretch where they will play seven teams that currently sit in playoff position over the course of the next 13 days spanning over 5 cities including four Metrosexual Division opponents so needless to say, these games are important for CBJ as well. Since Columbus decided to go 'all in' after acquiring center Matt Duchene from Ottawa, they have posted a record of 4-3 which isn't great and with their upcoming schedule, could get a lot worse. Defenseman Seth Jones said that his team should have a "do or die mentality every night."
That said, CBJ turns to backup Joonas Korpisalo tonight. Per Wes Crosby, Korpisalo is 0-2 in his career against the Penguins with a 4.09 goals against average and a .886 save percentage. Yikes. Matt Murray will start for the Penguins.
Third jerseys tonight.
We're suspended on Twitter for getting mad at Keith Kinkaid, follow our burner for the next five days, @PensOfAnarchy69.
Granted Sergei Bobrovsky sucks when it matters, but that is unreal that CBJ is turning to their backup tonight.
Matt Cullen got a sick whip for his 1,500th game. Apparently someone asked him if he'd reach 1,600 and I've never wanted to chug more bleach.
Sidney Crosby became the 48th player in NHL history to hit 1,200 points against the Panthers Tuesday night.
The Penguins have dominated CBJ as of late. They're 8-0-1 against them over their last nine, including winning seven in a row.
Some weird stat though, CBJ is 14-2-0 on Thursday's this season. Today is Thursday.
John Tortorella might be a decent guy after all. He was asked about three on three overtime and said that they should get rid of the shootout and play three on three "until a team dies." What great coach.
I am ready to get mad at Boone Jenner / Brandon Dubinsky / Nick Foligno tonight.
