Hellllllllooooooooo everyboddddyyyy, howwwww areeeee yaaaaa? Tonight the Penguins (36-23-9) play their 69th game of the season (nice) when they host the Boston Bruins (42-17-9) on the second of back-to-back games. Puck drop is set for just after 7:30pm on NBCSN.
Last night sucked. The Penguins lost to the Blue Jackets by a score of 4 to 1, making it their first loss to CBJ since the Lincoln administration. Everyone was pretty bad for what was essentially a 'must win' game, except for Matt Murray. Murray had at least four stellar saves including two potential saves of the year and without Murray's performance last night, the Penguins would have probably lost by 104. Zach Aston-Reese scored the lone goal in what was ultimately not the Penguins night.
Both teams enter having played last night. Boston, who currently sits second in the Atlantic Division with 91 points, beat the Ottawa Senators by a score of 3-2. This season the B's are 9-1-2 in the second of back-to-back games, which to my knowledge is pretty good. Boston is pretty dinged up though, they're without star winger David Pastrnak who went down with a thumb injury after falling while drunk after a team dinner, forward Jake DeBrusk who's day-to-day with a lower-body injury, defenseman Kevan Miller with an upper-body injury and forward Marcus Johansson, who's out with an upper-body injury as well. All four are expected to be sidelined tonight.
Expect a battle of the backups. Jaroslav Halak (who silenced the Penguins way back in 2010) vs Casey DeSmith.
The Bruins enter tonight have won nine of their last ten (9-0-1) and six in a row so expect the Penguins to win big tonight.
Evgeni Malkin managed to extend his point streak to nine games after picking up an assist on Aston-Reese's goal. He now has three goals and eight assists during that stretch.
Malkin is also two points away from becoming the 88th player to record 1,000 points.
Bruins confirm that Halak will start tonight.
Sidney Crosby was unable to extend his scoring streak and was a minus three last night. Gotta imagine he comes out on PCP tonight.
This may shock you but the Penguins surrendered another shorthanded goal yesterday. Kris Letang can't come back soon enough, not that he helps particularly in that department but still...
The Bruins have former Penguin and one year wonder, Lee Stempniak lmao. He's now 36 years old.
Antonio Brown was finally traded. The Steelers kept the wrong player, IMO.
