Hellllooooooooo everybodyyyyy, tonight the Penguins (1-1-0) look to win their second in a row when they take on Concierge Marie and the Winnipeg Jets (1-2-0). Puck drop is set for just after 7pm from PPG Paints Arena.
The Penguins absolutely dominated the Blue Jackets Saturday, beating them by a score of 7-2...however that almost feels like a loss now. It was announced yesterday that centers Evgeni Malkin and Nick Bjugstad will be out 'longer-term' with lower-body injuries sustained in the win. Later, TSN's Darren Dreger tweeted that Malkin suffered a 'soft tissue' injury to his leg and that he's expected to be out "at least a month." While that's definitely not ideal, when word first came out about Geno's injury it sounded much worse so I guess it's not the end of the world. Either way, the Penguins will now rely on depth to get them through this stretch. Forwards Sam Lafferty and Andrew Agozzino (sounds like something you order at Olive Garden) have been recalled.
The Jets are a fun team to watch, especially when they play at home and it's very loud and they do the whiteout. They should be good considering they have Patrik Laine, Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor just to name a few, however, they have no idea what the hell defenseman Dustin Byfuglien is doing as he contemplates his NHL future and they also lost star defenseman Jacob Trouba in a trade with the New York Rangers this offseason. All in all tonight should be fun, but I'm pretty much just going for the Mike Lange bobblehead and the pregame meal at Milanos. Expect Connor Hellebuyck to oppose Matt Murray in goal.
Mike Lange bobblehead night.
Brandon Tanev will play against his former team. He's been on cocaine for the Penguins since he's got here.
Matt Murray has looked sharp so far this season.
The Penguins will play four games in six nights. If you miss tonight's game...don't worry... you can see Winnipeg again on Sunday!!
Look for Jared McCann to center the second line. Mike Sullivan will likely juggle his lines 3 seconds into the game thus making this point irrelevant.
It'd be nice if the Penguins weren't paying Jack Johnson AND Erik Gudbranson a combined $7.25m, especially when a bunch of injuries happen. This sucks, tbh.
Per the Penguins, Pittsburgh has won 18 consecutive home games against the Jets / Thrashes (lmao) dating back to 2007.
Alex Galchenyuk has 13 points in 13 games against the Jets.
