After Tristan Jarry put up the best goaltending performance that the Penguins have seen over the last two seasons and beat the Leafs by a score of 6-1, they are back in action tonight against the red hot New York / wherever Islanders. Puck is set to drop from PPG Paints Arena at 7:00pm.
The last time these two teams met the Penguins ended the Islanders winning streak after they came back from a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 in overtime. The Islanders (14-3-1) are coming off a 4-3 shootout win against the Flyers. If you haven't heard the Penguins are without Sidney Crosby for six weeks and if they are going to need Evgeni Malkin to step up and carry the load. If the game against Toronto is any indication the Penguins will be just fine. Malkin was on PCP all night and was a threat to score all night (that's what she said). He finished the game with a goal and an assist. The Penguins have a tough stretch this week facing the Islanders twice and the Devils who no matter how bad they are, always give the Penguins a problem. Pittsburgh will also need to get goaltending like they got from Jarry on Saturday which has been a struggle at times (Fight me).
The Islanders enter this game having won three straight. Their last loss? You guessed it, against the Penguins back on November 7th. The Isles have points in 14 straight games...with a point tonight, they'll match their franchise record set back in 1981-1982 with points in 15 straight games. The Isles are led by Mathew Barzal who has 17 points on the season (9G, 8A). Pittsburgh is still led by Sidney Crosby with 17 points (lol) although Jake Guentzel is right behind him with 16.
Semyon Varlamov is expected to oppose Matt Murray in goal tonight. If you recall, Matt Murray blew the game Friday by letting in a super soft goal. Over his last six starts, Murray is 2-1-2 with a 2.68 goals against average and a lowly .894 save percentage.
(What we'd do to Scouting the Refs)
Murray vs Varlamov tonight - confirmed.
Jim Rutherford bobblehead night!!!
If you miss tonight's game, don't worry... you can see the Isles again on Thursday this time in Brooklyn!
Former awful Penguin, Derick Brassard somehow has 13 points for the Isles. That's easily double what he ever put up in Pittsburgh...in one season.
The Islanders are 13-0-1 over their last 14 games. Just confirmed with sources and that is indeed good.
Casey Czikas will play in his 500th career game tonight. All with the Isles.
It looks like scumbag Matt Martin is close to returning for the Isles. He truly does suck.
Patric Hornqvist skated Sunday so I guess that's good.
Bryan Rust has been pretty good lately. In his last 5 games, he has 4 goals and 2 assists.
Malkin could be on the verge of going nuts.
Matt Murray dropped a puck while you read this.
Jack Johnson (1) had more goals than Sidney Crosby (0) last week. Suck it.
At least tonight's game will be in an actual hockey arena.
The Penguins changed their win song to Party On 5th Ave by Mac Miller recently and all is right in the World.
