It's the day we've all been waiting for. Our President, and yours Phil Kessel returns home to Pittsburgh. Kessel isn't lighting the world on fire in Arizona like he did in Pittsburgh but he enters play tonight with 17 points and after last night, the Coyotes are in first place in their division with a 17-9-4 record. The Yotes will play the second of a back-to-back tonight. They beat the scumbags from across the state last night by a score of 3-1. Our Lord and Savior Phil Kessel had two goals in the W.
The Penguins are coming off a 3-0 shutout win over the St. Louis Blues. Their number one goalie Tristan Jarry played great. But honestly, who cares about the Pens. Phil Kessel is back home to the place he helped bring two straight Stanley Cups. It is the first time he's played the Penguins since the trade and quite honestly, we hope he scores a hat trick and then tells Mike Sullivan to go fist himself. It's honestly a shame that the Coyotes were in Philly last night just because that's a day Phil could have spent at the Rivers Casino playing poker :(. It really is a shame how Kessel's tenure with the Penguins ended. If you don't know what we are talking about, you're already on the internet reading this so look it up. If you're too lazy to do so, the short story is Mike Sullivan is an asshole and the Penguins didn't like that he played poker on his off days. Because that is totally the worst thing anyone in this organization has ever done. Regardless, it will be great to see Phil back in PPG tonight and he should be greeted like the hero that he is. Expect an unreal tribute video during the first television timeout.
Expect the Penguins to turn to their number one goalie, Tristan Jarry, again. Jarry has been unbelievable during this recent stretch. On the season, he is 6-4-0 with a 2.02 goals against average and a .936 save percentage. The Coyotes will likely go with Antti Raanta tonight being that Darcy Kuemper went last night and stopped 28 of 29 shots faced. Raanta has been solid this season, going 5-3-2 with a 2.66 goals against average and .924 save percentage.
Phil Kessel is my Dad.
Phil Kessel is your Dad.
Phil Kessel is all of our President.
Kessel played 328 games for the Penguins from 2015-2019, recording 303 points (110G, 193A).
In addition, Phil had 56 points (20G, 36A) in 65 career playoff games as a Penguin.
Per the Pens, their point leaders from 2015-2019 were:
Sidney Crosby - 363
Phil Kessel - 303
Evgeni Malkin - 300
The Penguins enter tonight ranked 23rd on the power play. I believe Kessel's absence has a lot to do with that...
It's almost like trading him was not smart.
Hopefully Phil was able to play some Poker at the Rivers prior to the game tonight.
Dominik Simon sucks. He probably missed another wide open net in the time it took you to read this.
Jarry vs Raanta tonight (Probably)
Also per the Penguins, Tristan Jarry is 13-3-0 at home over his career with a 2.25 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. That's pretty good.
It's funny, Kuemper and Jarry are both 1 and 2 in the league in both save percentage and goals against average.
The Pens went 2-0-0 against the Yotes last year. They'll play in Arizona on January 12th.
Stefan Noeson is pretty good. Unlike Dominik Simon, who sucks.
Rust and Schultz are game time decisions but will likely play.
