The Penguins might win the Stanley Cup again. Legit. I'm convinced. Jinxes aren't real so don't be mad at me when it doesn't happen. Whatever. Let's get to it.
1st, 8:14 - Pittsburgh, Ian Cole (1) assisted by Trevor Daley (1) & Evgeni Malkin (2)
1st, 5:47 - Anaheim, Cam Fowler (1) assisted by Ryan Getzlaf (1) & Ryan Kesler (2)
2nd, 17:57 - Pittsburgh, Conor Sheary (1) assisted by Chris Kunitz (1) & Matt Cullen (1)
2nd, 12:02 - Pittsburgh, Phil Kessel (1) assisted by Patric Hornqvist (1)
2nd, 9:33 - Corey Perry (1) assisted by Ryan Getzlaf (2)
Phil Kessel is still a Stanley Cup champion. Just felt like reminding you.
Marc-Andre Fleury is still #very good. He stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced. Had it not been for MAF, this game would've been over before Jeff Jimerson got off the ice.
After the first period, the Pens were on pace for like 63 shots or something ridiculous like that. They finished with 45, nonetheless. Someone in a mask hasn't seen that much rubber since the last time Mia Khalifa was on camera.
The difference in play styles between the Eastern & Western Conference teams is pretty crazy. Anaheim looked like a team full of Rob Scuderi's.
Don't look now, but Chris Kunitz and Conor Sheary were both damn good last night. Maybe Sid was holding them back IMO.
Even when the Penguins are sloppy, they still look good.
Eric Fehr was a major key in the third. I'm Fehr-ly certain of it. *gunshot*
The Pens have now won two games without the best player in hockey. Cup repeat confirmed.
Was there a defenseman on the ice that played bad last night? Maatta looked much improved from the home opner. Kris Letang is Kris Letang. Dumoulin was his usual self. Schultz led the team in shots on goal (7) on nine shot attempts. Ian Cole scored a goal and played well despite going to the penalty box twice. Cole is essentially me on EASHL: takes an unnecessary amount of penalties and scores a goal at a completely random and unpredictable time.
This won't be the last time I say this, but think about where we were at this point last season. Let's all forget that Mike Johnston ever happened.
The Penguins are now 2-0-0 when leading after two periods.
Next up: Colorado. Monday. 7 p.m. PPG Paints Arena.
