The Washington Capitals (42) of the Verizon Center in Washington DC passed away on Wednesday evening after showing no signs of life in Game 7. Normally, a team with this much star power, this would be a once in awhile type of loss, but for this team and their fanbase, this is the norm
In a season that started by watching the Penguins raise their Stanley Cup banner, ended in just as much disappointment by watching the Penguins skate off to the Eastern Conference Final, against them, again, for the 3rd time in the Ovechkin Era.
Since Ovechkin came into the league, the Washington Capitals have won 6 playoff series. SIX. In comparison, the Carolina Hurricanes have also won 6 playoff series (they haven't made the Playoffs since losing to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Final in 2009). The Penguins have won that many playoff series in the last calendar year. They've lost in Game 7 SEVEN times since 2008. That doesn't seem very good to me.
So thus we bid adieu, again, to the Washington Capitals. We'd invite them to the bar for a few rounds of drinks, but we're pretty sure they'll just stop and leave after the Second Round.
Over the next bit, we here at Pens Of Anarchy will give our final condolences to the Capitals.
Your Capitals were never going to win the cup this year. Sure they won the Presidents Trophy, again, but unless you're the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks, you aren't winning it all. (Last team to win the Presidents Trophy & Stanley Cup.) Games Five and Six were just like a stripper on amateur night in that sure they look promising, but once you get them home? It all goes south, and you become disappointed as always.
Oh and lastly, F U Matt Niskanen!
Death. Taxes. The Flyers doing something dumb. Brett "saying" something incredibly stupid, and the Washington Capitals tapping out in the middle of May. The only guarantee's in life. Had it not been for a vicious assault on Sidney Crosby in game 3, we might have been laying these mouth breather's to rest a week sooner. But alas, here we are. May 12th 2017 (the time this sentence was typed) and the Washington Capitals are officially dead. Other than getting swept or blowing a 3-0 lead this is the ultimate in the Caps being the Caps. Battled back from a 3-1 deficit against a team missing arguably their most important player, only to not only lose but get shutout on home ice in game 7. It would be fun to put all of the tweets by all of the retards that said the Caps would be winning the Cup after aquiring Kevin Shitdefenseman at the deadline, but you would be here until next season's Caps eulogy reading them all. If there is one good thing to come out of this for the Caps, its that they have their own official soft drink now.
RIP 2016-2017 Washington Capitals. We look forward to seeing you at this time again in about 365 days.
Nothing I could say could trump what's said in this video, at least the Caps aren't the most embarassing thing in Washington?
Every year it's the same damn thing. The Capitals blow past everyone in the regular season and it's 'their year.' Then the playoffs start and suddenly the Caps Cap. It's truly magical and could be the eighth Wonder of the World. If the Capitals were to win a cup (hahahaha), this would have been the year. They had Mr. Game Seven and the American Hero!! I'd be surprised if Trotz and the squad returned next season. I know Ovi probably thinks Russia is a real solid option at this point, considering there's no way in hell he'll ever win anything team oriented here other than the right to touch the President's Trophy. As a side note, remember when the Penguins were up 3-1 in the series, the Caps won the next two and then lost in Game Seven, getting shutout by Marc-Andre Fleury?? That's the ultimate definition of the Capitals Capping. I guess we'll see them next year in the regular season, dominating as usual. It doesn't mean anything though. Goodbye Capitals and goodbye Mia Khalifa. Good luck on the golf course and shooting porn.
LOL! The Caps capped.
