It's a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh! It is a Stanley Cup rematch as the Nashville Predators (0-1-0) come to PPG Paints Arena to take on our Penguins (0-1-1, 1 pt). Nick Bonino makes his return to the ice in Pittsburgh, this time as a Predator.
The last time these two teams met, the Penguins clinched their 5th Stanley Cup and it naturally was in Nashville. Boy did that make people mad, most notably Carrie Underwood. Speaking of CW, we won't be seeing her anymore as her aging husband, Mike Underwood (sorry! Mike Fisher!) decided to retire and spare us all another year of Underwood. Thanks Mike! Way to take one for the team!
Could this past Thursday gone any worse? Actually yes, but we won't talk about the 10-1 slaughtering the Blackhawks put on us. In fact, we don't even have a Studs and Duds sections because, lets be honest, the whole team was a dud.
Last season, the Penguins went 1-1 against the Predators in the regular season, being outscored 7-5. It will be interesting to see what changes the Penguins made between Thursday and tonight. We know that the team cancelled practice to have a film session with the GOAT, Mike "Sully" Sullivan. Speaking of the GOAT, did I mention that Nick Bonino returns tonight?
Bonino finished his Penguins career with 66 points (27-39) in 143 games over two seasons. I was originally gonna write a mean article about him leaving, sidenote (I am still upset he left for Nashville of all places), but with Greg "Second Coming of God" McKegg centering the third line, I am ok with it.
Referees: #69 Zack Morris, #24 Jen Bahm
Linesmen: #68 Jordan Aloia, #51 Peter Griffin.
*These ARE NOT the actual Stripes for tonight's game.*
-NICK BONINO RETURNS!
-NO MORE CARRIE UNDERWOOD!
-P.K. Subban and his breath.
-Philip J. Kessel scored last game and I had a celebratory hot dog. (IMO a hot dog is NOT a sandwich.)
-Not a game note but happy 24th birthday to Jen Bahm, who has the toughest job in the world. (Being a Penguins fan in Philly. Note: She has the only cups in town)!
-Matt Murray is expected to make his second start of the season.
-Don't expect any line changes tonight, but I am not the coach so Sully might make changes.
-Scott Hartnell is back in Nashville and that makes me mad because Scot Hartnell.
-Roman Josi is the Predators new Captain.
-Marc-Andre Fleury made lots of history last night. Not only did he get the win in his Vegas debut, but it was their first win in franchise history. (Former Pen and Pred James Neal scored both goals for VGK).
