The Penguins (19-18-3) will play their first game of the New Year tonight when they travel to the landfill known as Wells Fargo Center to take on ass-grabber Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers (16-14-8). If the Penguins manage to lose this game in regulation and let's be real, that's a legit possibility, the Penguins would own sole possession of last place in the Metrosexual Division. Yikes.
The Penguins are expected to get a boost in their lineup tonight though as both Kris Letang and Justin Schultz are expected to return to the lineup. The Penguins sent Casey DeSmith, Andrey Pedan (the 'Defensive Datsyuk') and Garrett Wilson back to Wilkes-Barre in order to make room on their roster. The Penguins could have used that boost on New Years Eve when they lost 4-1 to the Detroit Red Wings in embarrassing fashion. Oh well, at least Daniel Sprong is here.
The Penguins are struggling to score goals and it's bad. Currently the Pens are averaging just 2.73 goals per game and have been held to two or fewer goals in seven of their last 12 games. Yikes. Per Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Crosby has just one goal in nine games, Kessel has one goal in eight games, Guentzel just one goal in 13 games, and Conor Sheary has goal in his last 11 games. Yeah, that's not very good.
Meanwhile in Philadelphia, the Flyers are coming off a 5-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night. The Flyers are currently one point behind the Penguins and are 6-3-1 over their last ten games. They are led by ass-grabber / cop enthusiast Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, who both have 46 points on the season. To put that in perspective, Phil Kessel leads the Penguins with 42 points (16 goals, 26 assists) followed by center Evgeni Malkin with 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists).
**When I check Scouting the Refs to see if they've updated the officials for tonight yet**
Kate Smith is dead.
Philadelphia worships a fictional movie character. Rocky sucks anyway.
#TBT to when wristbands were fired onto the ice. Good times.
When there's not much good to report regarding the Penguins, we'll naturally write about how bad Philadelphia is.
Apparently Dominik Simon was recalled. That's probably five times in the last two weeks.
Sprong played well in his first game, generating a few scoring chances. He played a total of 18:08 in his first game.
Please win this game so we're not last place in the Metrosexual Division, @Penguins.
