After a wonderful five day break, the Penguins (22-19-3) are back in action this afternoon from PPG Paints Arena when they take on the Detroit Red Wings (17-17-7) with puck drop scheduled for just after 1:00PM.
The Penguins have had five days off, which for the sake of their team and my nerves has been quite nice. The Penguins entered their five day break on a two game winning streak, something they haven't been able to do since the beginning of December when they beat the really bad Buffalo Sabres team twice in a row. The Penguins last game was Sunday, a game in which they beat the Boston Bruins 6-5 in overtime, thanks to Evgeni Malkin's overtime winner.
The Red Wings are also coming off a five day break so both teams will be well-rested. The Wings had won four of their last five entering the break and look to pick up where they left off. The Red Wings are led by center Dylan Larkin, who leads the team with 34 points (6 goals, 28 assists).
The Penguins did not make any trades during their mini break but the fact that Daniel Sprong is in the NHL and now revitalizing the Crosby line may have been the biggest pickup of all (other than that third line center that we desperately need). Sidney Crosby is on another planet right now. In his last four games, Sid has eight points (1 goal, 7 assists). My God. Buckle up. If the Penguins can find their stride again, watch out.
Matt Murray is out due to personal reasons.
Hopefully he can find his glove hand while he's out.
Casey DeSmith was recalled.
Expect Tristan Jarry vs Jimmy Howard in net today.
Detroit is ghetto but I did watch 8 Mile the other night and that's a pretty solid movie.
Keep in mind Sunday's Rangers vs Penguins game was moved to 7:30PM because the Steelers have to beat the Jaguars ass first. Stay tuned.
Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang are representing the Penguins in the All-Star game.
Ryan Reaves went to Cancun over the break, that's pretty lit, tbh.
Penguins haven't won three games in a row since December 2nd (go figure it was the Sabres game(s) again.
It's so cold in the D.
