It's a Stanley Cup rematch! The San Jose Sharks (26-15-7, 59 pts) come to Pittsburgh looking to get revenge for their cup lost in 2016. The Pens (27-21-3, 57 pts) are coming off a 6-3 win over the Wild in their final game before the All Star Break. Pittsburgh is up to 6th in the Eastern Conference standings, but they have also played 2-4 more games then the other teams.
The NHL trade deadline is quickly approaching and it remains to be seen what, if any trades the Pens will make. Rumors still abound that the Pens will make a move to get at least one more scoring forward and potentially someone who can fill in the bottom 6 forwards.
During the NHL All-Star break, the NHL announced that the next NHL expansion team will likely be in Seattle. Gary Bettman said that the group is close to submitting their application and if all goes as expected, they should be expected to being play in 2020. Also announced was that any potential expansion team will get the same rules for the draft that the Vegas Golden Knights got.
Matt Murray returns to the starting role.
No Ryan Reaves again tonight.
Ian Cole and Jamie Oleksiak together again tonight.
Will Carl Hagelin score another goal?
Can the Pens make it 3 in a row?
Now is the time of year where the Penguins start trying, buckle up.
