Tonight the Penguins (38-25-4) will play a somewhat meaningful game against a team that damn well could be their opponent in the first round, the Philadelphia Flyers (34-21-11). Let me tell you folks, I'm nervous. The last time these two teams met in a meaningful playoff series, way back in 2012, Danny Briere was offsides and I'm still not over it to this day. The Penguins were going to win the Stanley Cup that year.
The Penguins are coming off a thrilling 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Flames on Monday. The Penguins of course jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, only to surrender it shortly after. Letang would then put the Penguins up 3-2 with a rocket of a shot, just to have Calgary tie it up less than two minutes later. The Penguins then did Penguin things and dominated the overtime frame, aside from Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau missing the net on a 2 on 0. Phil Kessel then found Justin Schultz for a cross-crease one-timer. Schultz rocketed the puck home, beating Flames scrub goaltender Jon Gillies. Ballgame. Pens win 4-3.
After losing three straight, the Penguins appear back to form, taking their last two games in overtime. Chad Ruhwedel scored in Monday's game against the Flames. Ruhwedel makes me forget that Matt Hunwick was a thing and I like it. Evgeni Malkin is also dominating the NHL. He had another three point night against the Flames and now has 44 points in his last 25 games. If you're new to hockey, that's really good. I would expect Tristan Jarry in net tonight for the Penguins. Matt Murray did skate prior t
I hate the Flyers with a living passion and the fact that the city of Philadelphia worships a fictional boxing character makes me mad, however the Flyers have been pretty good lately. Over their last ten, the Flyers are 6-2-2 and currently sit one point behind the Penguins for second in the Metrosexual Division. Needless to say, a win tonight would be nice. The Flyers are led by police ass-grabbing enthusiast, Claude Giroux, who currently has 78 points (23 goals, 55 assists). The Flyers have lost two in a row though, including a 7-6 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, so that's good.
Stripes, to be determined.
If I'm you, I fully anticipate getting mad tonight.
Nationally televised tonight folks, NBCSN has the game.
If these teams meet in the playoffs, I will not be able to take a seven game series. My composure will be gone.
Conor Sheary was still absolutely terrible Monday. He has like 4 goals over the last 40 games.
Evgeni Malkin (82) trails Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (85) by just three points in the NHL scoring race. Buckle up.
Malkin (37) also trails Ovechkin (40) by just three goals in scoring race.
Speaking of goals, how in the world does Sean Courwerhjasfhsahjdrier have 29 goals on the season for the Flyers?
Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds, someone who makes me really mad, returns tonight. That sucks.
Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald is very, very bad at hockey.
It's a shame Philly didn't burn down during the Super Bowl celebration.
The Penguins are 9-2 this year in just overtimes. That's speed, folks.
I'm already mad.
Lafferty, Sam was given a two year entry-level deal.
The Eagles weren't really that good...
The winner tonight takes over sole possession of first place in the Metrosexual Division.
At least Kate Smith can't sing the anthem tonight, right?
