For only the fourth time in three years the Penguins find themselves facing elimination. The Penguins enter tonight's game trailing in the best of seven series 3 games to 2. The Penguins put together 40 minutes of their best hockey of this playoffs in Game Five. It was the final 60 minutes that killed them. They opened the scoring when Jamie Oleksiak ripped a bomb passed Holtby to give the Pens a 1-0 lead. The Pens had all the momentum late in the period when Dominik Simon took one of the worst penalties of all time. That penalty led to a power play goal from co 9/11 conspirator John Carlson. Mere seconds later Matt Murray let up a soft goal to some jabroni to make it 2-1. The Pens would answer in the second with power play goals from Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist. The Cps would answer with four unanswered goals in the third to give them the 6-3 win, the lead in the series, and push the Pens to the brink of elimination. We have seen in the past two seasons the Penguins play their best hockey with their backs against the wall. If there was ever a time for them to do it again, tonight is the night. It would also help if Matt Murray would steal a game for once. If the Penguins want their season ton continue he is going to have to be better. The Penguins bottom six is also going to need to be better. The Penguins top six has accounted for pretty much all of the production in this series. The bottom six had some golden chances in Game Five but couldn't cash in. If they did, we are singing a different tune right now.
Should the Pens win, pee drinking Tom Wilson's suspension will be over and he'll be back for Game Seven.
Nick Backstrom and John Carlson are both expected to play tonight. They were both dinged up at the end of game 5.
Braden Holtby is the only reason the Caps are still alive. Well. Him and the fact that Matt Murray can't stop an exercise ball top glove. Holtby has been outstanding this series. Very un-Holtby like when he plays the Pens.
Marc-Andre Fleury is in the Conference Finals.
The Capitals are 1-9 all-time vs the Penguins in potential close-out games. So yeah, yikes.
If Kris Letang could not suck for once tonight, that'd be fantastic.
A lot has been made about Matt Murray's record after a loss. I know this might be hard for some people to fathom but Matt Murray needs to be better. Plain and simple. Sorry for telling you the truth. *Shrug face*
Ryan Reaves is in the Conference Finals.
Ian Cole is Golfing.
