Hellllllooooooooo everybodyyyyyyy tonight the Penguins (28-18-6) will play their final home game before embarking on a three game road trip when they host Micheal Ferland and the Carolina Hurricanes (25-21-6). Puck drop is set for just after 7pm tonight from PPG Paints Arena.
The Penguins lost on Saturday to the Maple Leafs of Toronto by a score of 3-2. As per usual, the Penguins scored the first two goals and dominated the first half of the game, only to let up the next three. All in all, Pittsburgh played pretty well considering it was the second game of a back-to-back and they were without forward Evgeni Malkin. The Penguins will be getting some much needed relief soon. Justin Schultz went full in practice yesterday sporting a non-contact jersey, though he will not play tonight, you have to imagine he'll be back sooner rather than later. He will likely make his return during one of these games on this upcoming road trip. Also, if you think the Penguins are going to scratch Jack Johnson when Schultz does return...I'm afraid I've got some bad news. They won't. It'll be Riikola. Deal with it.
Carolina begins their season long five game road trip tonight. They will play five games over the next eight days and this stretch run could determine what they do at the trade deadline. The Penguins have been linked to Carolina winger Micheal Ferland but with the recent acquisition of Nick Bjugstad and Jared McCann from Florida, I pray to god they do not pursue him. This would be a historic season for the Penguins if Jim Rutherford enters the offseason with his first round draft pick. The Penguins have not had their first round selection since 2014 when they took current Leafs forward Kasperi Kapanen.
The Penguins beat the Canes last time out by a score of 3-0 on December 22nd. Matt Murray recorded a 39 save shutout in the win. Expect him to oppose Petr Mrazek tonight.
It's 80's Night tonight. Matt Cullen should celebrate by retiring on the ice prior to puck drop.
Speaking of throwbacks, Greg McKegg is Carolina's 4th line center. TBT.
Teddy Blueger will probably score again tonight. He's got two goals over his last three games and continues to look like he belongs here.
Jake Guentzel has 4 goals and 6 points over his last 3 games.
The Pens are 10-2 over their past 12 games against the Canes.
Sebastian Aho leads the Hurricanes in points with 60 (24G, 36A).
I kinda hope the Canes win and do their overly fun win celebration in Pittsburgh. Having fun >>>.
Jordan Staal will be out again tonight with concussion symptoms. He hasn't played since 12/22 which makes me sad.
The Leafs are about to give Auston Matthews $11.6m over five years. That said, remember when Sidney Crosby is making $8.7m per season to be the best player in the game. What a classy guy.
Jack Johnson is poor and really sucks at hockey. His parents stole all of his money and that said, when Schultz returns he will continue to play.
