Helllllloooooooo everybodyyyyyy, how areeeeee yaaaaaaaa? Much like what drinking on the South Side did to me last night, the Penguins (39-24-9) will try to forget about their abysmal performance yesterday when they host Gritty and the scumbags (34-29-8) from Philadelphia. Puck drop is set for just after 7:30pm on NBC Sports.
Yesterday was bad. Not only did the Penguins forget that they had a game, falling to the Blues by a score of 5-1 but St. Patrick's Day weekend was absolutely insane. Let me tell you that Green Tea shots really do taste like Green Tea. Nonetheless, the Penguins were bad yesterday. Dominik Simon scored the lone goal and Matt Murray was pulled in the game. Honestly, it's probably just a little bump in the road but if they lose tonight I will be irate and probably hit the panic button again. In reality, the Penguins are still 7-2-2 over their last 11 games and they face a big test Tuesday night when they head down to Carolina to take on the very fun Hurricanes.
The Flyers are scumbags. Their shot at the playoffs seems to have died like Kate Smith on Friday night when they surrendered five straight goals and lost to the Maple Leafs by a score of 7 to 6. Philadelphia now sits seven points out of the second wild card spot with just 11 games to play. Needless to say, I am quite happy about this. Let's be real though, this game is going to give PTSD considering the last time these two clubs met was the Stadium Series game. The Penguins gave up two goals in the final three minutes of the game only to lose on a lollipop shot by Claude Giroux in overtime. Both Brian Dumoulin and Kris Letang were injured in the game and Jack Johnson ended up playing close to 69 minutes. To this day, we're still waiting for Letang to rejoin the lineup. There is some optimism that he and Bryan Rust could return tonight but honestly have no idea.
Expect the Penguins to go to Matt Murray again tonight, he was pulled yesterday after allowing four goals to the Blues, none of which were really his fault. Carter Hart will start for the Flyers.
Honestly, we should just forget yesterday's game happened.
Stadium Series jerseys tonight.
The Penguins sit just two points behind the Islanders for the second spot in the Metrosexual Division. The Isles lost yesterday to Detroit so that's good.
The guy that Crosby passed the baton to, Claude Giroux, is a game-time decision with an illness. He's probably in the city grabbing some cop's ass.
This will be the Penguins first meetup with the Flyers without scumbag Wayne Simmonds in the lineup. He was sent to Nashville at the trade deadline.
The Penguins are 1-1-1 against the Flyers so far this year so today will be the tie breaker.
Per @SinceFlyersCup, today marks 16,000 days since the Flyers last won way back in 1975.
Sidney Crosby is the Flyer's daddy. He enters tonight with a seven game point streak against them which includes 15 points during that stretch (5G,10A).
Per the Penguins, tonight is Dominik Simon's 100th career game. To be honest, that's about 99.5 more than he should have played.
Phil Kessel will tie Forward 27 for most consecutive games played in a Penguins sweater with 319 when he suits up tonight.
Never forget when Travis Konecny called Evgeni Malkin a nerd during the Stadium Series game. I am mad and want blood.
Gritty is a national treasure.
