Despite Matt Murray's best efforts to piss the game away, the Penguins were able to pull out a come from behind overtime win against Colorado. Please, if you haven't seen it yet, go watch the second goal Murray gave up even if it's just for comedic purposes. The Pens fell behind on a Nathan MacKinnon goal in the first period. Teddy Blueger would tie it in the second off of a beautiful shot pass by the Penguins best defenseman not names Jack Johnson, John Marino. Then Matt Murray happened and the Pens were behind 2-1. Bryan Rust would tie the game early in the 2nd with his 18th of the season. Evgeni Malkin would give the Penguins a lead late in the game before Colorado would ultimately tie the game with under a minute to play. Jared McCann would win the game for the Pens late in overtime on a wrist shot from the slot.
They Coyotes are licking their wounds after a road trip where they went 1-2. They won their first game against Florida by a score of 5-2, but in the two games after that they were shutout in both games by scores of 4-0 and 3-0. Despite the two lopsided losses, the Coyotes (25-18-4) still remain just one point back from the Pacific Division leading Flames with 54 points on the season.
This will be the final meeting between these two teams this year. The Penguins won the first meeting in Pittsburgh by a score of 2-0. Arizona will look a little different in this game compared to they way they looked the last times these two teams met. The Coyotes have since added Taylor Hall to their lineup in a trade last month with the New Jersey Devils. Hall has 9 goals and 24 assists so far this season, 3 of those goals and 5 of those assists have come as a member of the Coyotes. The Penguins won't see Darcy Kuemper this time around, he was injured in a game against the Wild back on December 19th. Instead they'll most likely see Antti Raanta who is 9-9-2 on the season.
Most importantly however, Phil Kessel is still there.
At the time of typing this, no clue who is in goal for the Pens tonight, it will likely be Tristan Jarry.
Antti Raanta will probably go for the Coyotes.
The Penguins are 13-3-1 over their last 17 games. That's legit unreal.
Crosby once again could be back tonight. Realistically probably not because he's a loser and will probably want to come back in Pittsburgh.
Speaking of returning, Nick Bjugstad and Justin Schultz should return soon but no one really cares about them.
This is the final game of the Pens three game road trip before returning home to face Minnesota on Tuesday night.
Phil Kessel is the best.
Bryan Rust is pretty good. He has 18 goals now. Pretty sure he had like 1 at this point last season.
Phil Kessel is your Dad.
Matt Murray is poop.
Hopefully the Coyotes wear their Kachina jerseys tonight. Those are the most beautiful thing in the NHL and its not even close. The only this that maybe compares is Marc-Andre Fleury's smile.
